25 Mar Teacher Feature – Jordan Berger

Ever wanted to know the in’s and out’s of a Yogaholics yoga teacher’s life? Jordan Berger is next in our teacher feature series and dishes on his diet, favourite yoga pose and words to live by.

Hailing from the U.S. Jordan found Yoga through his mother’s love of the practice. He fully believes that the Yoga Mindset is the most important aspect of Yoga and that Asana is a supplement to an open mind, loving heart and commitment to growth. Will reading this make you complete a class like Jordan? Probably not, but it’s a GREAT place to start!

Yogaholics: Where is your hometown?

Jordan: Born in Yakima, Washington but I call Santa Cruz, California home.

Yogaholics: How and when did you first get into yoga?

Jordan: My mum was a yoga teacher when I was growing up, but I always thought it was the “weird thing mum did” and wasn’t interested at all. She got me a private teacher with her, David Newman, as a high school graduation present. I finally gave in and went to the session only to emerge from the studio feeling high as a kite! I asked my mum if yoga was always like this, and once she said YES, I knew I was hooked.

Yogaholics: Where did you do your yoga teacher training?

Jordan: Power Living, Bondi Beach 2015.

Yogaholics: What is your daily personal yoga or general exercise routine?

Jordan: Morning Meditation daily. I usually train at the gym 2 – 4 times a week and slide some Vinyasa and Yin into the week a few times. I balance my fitness between Yoga and Weight Training to maintain flexibility and strength.

Yogaholics: If you had to describe your yoga teaching style in 3 words they would be?

Jordan: Fun, cheeky, and strong.

Yogaholics: What food (diet) do you typically follow?

Jordan: See food, eat it! Actually, after some digestion issues over the last year, I now dabble with the FODMAP diet and try to eat gluten-free as much as possible. Generally low sugar and high protein!

Yogaholics: What is your favourite yoga pose?

Jordan: Ardha Chandrasana.

Yogaholics: Words to live by?

Jordan: “I’d rather laugh with the sinners than cry with the saints” – Billy Joel  / “If it’s not a F#*$! YES, it’s a NO” – Someone Rad
