08 Apr Three Simple Ways To Start Your Meditation Journey

Everyone seems to be meditating these days, everyone except you it seems… Looking to jump on the meditation bandwagon, but don’t know where to start?

Don’t stress, we’ve got you covered with these three simple meditation techniques to get you #zen. All you need is your beautiful self, a few mins and a quiet space.

Here are three different techniques to get you started, choose the one that resonates most with you.

 

1. Just Sit

Commit to doing nothing more than sitting quietly and watching what happens. Just sit your butt down and observe the thoughts that arise and pass through your mind. If you’re anything like us, you’ll likely be surprised by how difficult it is to sit quietly for 5-10 minutes. In the process, though, you may learn something important about the qualities of the restless mind and the ever-changing nature of life.

 

2. Listen to the Sounds of Life

Close your eyes and tune in to the sounds vibrating both within you and around you. Open your ears and adopt an open attitude. At first, you’ll likely hear only the most obvious noises; the chatter of voices, a car zooming past but over time, you’ll discover new layers of sounds that you’d previously tuned out; the sound of the leaves in the wind. Challenge yourself to observe what you hear without clinging to it or resisting it. Notice how the world feels more alive as your awareness of the present deepens.

 

3. Follow the Breath

Attach your mind to the breath. While you’re breathing in, focus on how the breath travels in through your nostrils, and while you’re breathing out, focus on the warmth of the air coming out. Don’t manipulate the breath in any way; simply watch it with your mind’s eye. When you find that your attention has strayed, as it inevitably will, gently refocus it on the breath and begin again.

 

Now you know these different ways to meditate, it’s time to find a comfy seat, either cross-legged on the floor or a chair and get to meditating. Put your phone on aeroplane mode, set your timer for 5-10 minutes and close your eyes. Let the journey begin.
