16 Mar Never Miss A Sunrise – How To Become A Morning Yogi

morning sunrise yoga

Fancy being an early bird? Rising with the sun. Rolling out your yoga mat and flowing like a goddess. All that before you are even off to work.  #dreaming or might you be THAT early morning bird/ yogi. We’d all love to know how to ditch your snooze button and hop out of bed in no time, just occasionally at least. So we’ve got the inside scoop on how to ease yourself into becoming an early morning person. Rise and shine, yogis.

We all know that getting up early is the best way to start our days. It’s scientifically proven that it can change your life. Ok, you have tried. Haven’t we all? So. many. times. Then your alarm goes off. And at that moment, staying in bed is the much hassle-free and more comfortable option. We get that. Truly we do.

Ok, so here it goes, you need to prep your early morning start the night before. Yes, that’s right. It’s all in the preparation to kick it off. It will be hard, not gonna lie, but you won’t regret it. Just stick with it. Read below three secrets to help you spring out of bed at the crack of dawn.

1. Set your bedtime.

First things first: How much sleep do you need each night to feel good? 7 hours, 8 hours, maybe it’s 9 hours. Set yourself a bedtime that’ll enable you to get your ideal beauty sleep. It helps to count backwards from the time you need to wake up the next day to when you should be in bed. It differs from person to person, so there is no generic rule. Most importantly here is that you stick to the same bed and alarm times in the beginning. Your body clock will adjust in no time and, surprise surprise, you’ll wake up on your own after a while. You can soon ditch the alarm. And literally wake with the sun. How good is that?

2. Pick out your morning outfit.

To prevent scrambling around for your yoga outfit in the morning, always lay out your outfit the night before. And pack your bag for the next day in case you are off to work straight from the studio. Make sure to include everything from your water bottle, snacks, chargers, bus card, makeup, hand sanitizer, headphones, yoga outfit and mat etc. A little tip: for that first early morning wakeup, try picking out your favourite yoga outfit. You’ll feel amazing when you put your fave outfit on – and it’s amazing how much that helps! Trust us. From there, nothing’s gonna stop you now. You are ready to flow.

3. Brekkie prep makes all the difference.

In case you need to eat a bit before you can fully function, either already prep your brekkie the night before or pop your breakfast ingredients on the kitchen counter.  A super easy and healthy option is overnight oats or smoothies. You can premix it the night before and let it sit overnight. Then, in the morning, once you’ve come back from watching the sunrise or your yoga class, all you need to do is add your favourite toppings. Prepping your fave breakfast food the night before also gives you something to look forward to in the early morning. Same goes if you REQUIRE that first coffee or tea to feel human. Set everything up the night before, so all you have to do switch on your machine. Super easy.

Becoming a morning person sounds all pretty straight forward, right? On paper, it does for sure, but you’ll be surprised by how motivating it’ll be once you’re up and out the door in the morning. IRL that is. Do it at least several mornings in a row, because the first few early starts could be cruel if you’re not used to it. #keepingitreal Need a little extra motivation or push in the beginning? Call on your early morning yogi friends and go to an early class together. You don’t want to disappoint them by not showing up for class. And to sweeten the deal, post-yoga coffee or chai is a must. It’s the best way to start your day. Give it a go and thank us later. Plus, you will have so many more hours in your new day. WINNING!
