16 Jun Everything You Need To Know About Your 7 Chakras

Chakras are very on trend and omnipresent these days. Everyone’s talking about them. Your yogi friends are wearing chakra pendants, and now your yoga teacher also dropped some chakra balancing poses on you during class. What’s up with the chakras anyways?

We gathered all the essential facts and surprising benefits about the seven chakras, so you don’t need to stress about it. Plus, next time you meet up with your yogi squad, you can drop your knowledge about chakras like the truly enlightened being you are. #winning

First things first, what are chakras anyways? Chakras are the seven energy wheels that run up the centre of your body and align with your spine. Energy should flow freely through them. When a chakra is blocked, it can lead to illness or imbalances of any kind. These can be emotional, mental, physical or spiritual.

Ok, this is not a quick read, you might want to grab your mug of chai latte. We didn’t want you to miss out on anything, so settle in and keep reading.

We also have a goodie for you, in the end. #winningagain You will get access to an incredible guided chakra meditation by our very own Duncan Peak.

First, you read up about your seven chakras, then you can feel into your energy wheels for yourself. How good is that?

Here it goes. Let’s start at the base of the spine and slowly work our way up to the crown of the head.

The Root Chakra

The root chakra (Muladhara) is at the base of your spine. It governs your most basic survival needs and connects and grounds you with the earth.

When this chakra is clear, and energy flows through it freely, you feel secure and confident that you can quickly fulfil your own needs.

However, blockages in your root charka would make you feel anxious, worried, lonely or even depressed. It can also trigger feelings of unsafety and insecurities.

You want your root chakra to be flowing freely!

The Sacral Chakra

This chakra (Svadhishtana) is the seed of your creativity, your physical reproduction and your connection to others. It’s two inches below your belly button and two inches inward.

The sacral chakra is the centre for feeling emotion, pleasure, and intimacy. Your sense of abundance blooms here as well.

An imbalanced sacral chakra can often result in low libido or the opposite a very high sex drive. Furthermore, you may find it hard to manifest or get into the creative groove.

When channelled into higher energy centres, the sacral chakra fuels your creative force. You’re enabled to manifest your dream life, build your business #girlboss, or create a life of love and abundance.

The Solar Plexus Chakra

Your energy chakra (Manipura) sits just below your ribcage and above your navel. This chakra represents your personal power in the world. A little reminder – who runs the world?

The seeds of intentions and desires reside in your third chakra. Bring your attention to these seeds which you wish to grow and nourish them. Don’t forget to be clear about your intentions, so you are not surprised when they become a reality.

The charka is balanced when you are capable of turning your intentions and desires into manifestation. Your self-esteem, self-discipline, and willpower are all strong as well. #winninginlife

On the other hand, when this chakra is blocked, you experience feelings of frustration, low self-esteem and lack of confidence. Note to self, keep this chakra flowing.

The Heart Chakra

You radiate love, joy, happiness, and compassion from your heart chakra (Anahata). This chakra at the centre of your chest. Literally where your physical heart is. It is dedicated to overcoming separation and stands for unconditional love.

When the heart is blocked, you are feeling a sense of separation from others. You can’t control your feelings of lust, anger, sadness or grief.

When your heart is open and flowing, you feel connected at a deep level to all beings in your life. The true nature of the heart. This chakra is also the place where you find your true self. Only when you’re able to love and accept yourself are you ready to love others genuinely. #love

The Law of Giving and Receiving governs the heart chakra. Just as a healthy physical heart receives blood from the periphery, which it then oxygenates and pumps back out, your emotional heart stays healthy by receiving and giving love in all its forms. So, spread your love wide and far, yogis!

The Throat Chakra

The centre of your expression and communication is the throat chakra (Visshuddha). It reflects your authenticity and is all about speaking your truth. Furthermore, hearing and specifically listening are associated with the throat chakra.

When it is open and flowing, you have the confidence to express your truth without concern for censors or critics. But behold, this does not mean you are saying things that are intentionally hurtful or insensitive. On the contrary, people with open throat chakras are skilful in expressing their needs in ways that are life supporting.

When you feel that you’re not being heard, that might be an indication that your fifth chakra is not in balance. You may also feel indecisive, not able to express yourself or unable to accept criticism. To feel alive and empowered, it’s important that this energy centre is bright.

The Third Eye Chakra

Your sixth chakra is the third eye chakra (Ajna). It is located between your eyebrows and is the centre of insight and intuition. It’s where you connect to your mental state. Your ideas, imagination, dreams, and values are all born through your third eye chakra. Just wow, right?

When your intuition chakra is open, you have a deep sense of connection to your inner voice and feel guided in your choices. Your clear connection to your dharma, or purpose in life, is usually associated with the opening of this chakra.

When your chakra is blocked, you will experience a sense of self-doubt and distrust. You have difficulties connecting to your spirituality. With an overactive third eye chakra, you would tend to live in a fantasy world and tend to be out of touch with reality, whereas an underactive chakra can manifest as stubborn belief systems and rigid thoughts.

There is a wise voice within you, guiding you to express the highest aspects of your nature. Listen to this still inner voice, which is guiding you to manifest your full potential. All you need to do is quieten the internal voices of others, that are trying to influence you. Then you truly can identify the sound of your soul. The only desire of your soul is for you to remember your essential nature as a spark of the divine.

The Crown Chakra

The seventh chakra is located at the crown of your head and is called the consciousness chakra (Dahaswara). You’ve probably seen it visualised as a lotus flower.

With a balanced crown chakra, you are experiencing feelings of bliss, deep wisdom and connection to spirituality.

An imbalanced crown chakra can manifest as a disconnection to faith or the universe, close-mindedness or sometimes even an obsessive attachment to spiritual matters.

Now you are in the know and have an overview of your seven chakras, their location, and what they stand for. Pretty incredible, isn’t it? And all this info is just the tip of the iceberg really, as there is so much more you can explore to support and heal your energy centres. Certain yoga poses can re-align blocked chakras, you can eat certain foods to retain balance, and you can gain a deeper awareness for them through meditation.

Honestly, there is no better way than to turn inwards and feel the chakra energy yourself. And as promised in the beginning, you are lucky, that our very own Duncan Peak recorded the incredible Light up your chakras meditation. He guides you through all your seven chakras, so you can feel into them and connect on a deeper level to each of your chakras.

So, get comfy and click play to tune inwards. There are also loads more meditations and inspiration where that came from.

Let the energy of the chakras unfold and see where life takes you, yogis!
