Let’s cut to the chase, you’re living your dream life once the clock ticked over midnight. #newyearnewyou #nojokes #gotthisinthebag

We so feel it too; the new year always seems to be the perfect time to spice things up. Try everything new. Boom!

So… we’re a few weeks into the new year now: what’ve you done differently? And what’s still on the list?… Or are you realistically still writing the list? Can’t rush greatness, right?

Well we wanted to show you the most significant wellness trends for 2020 to give you a little nudge in the right direction. What do you do when you want to know something? You got it, we asked our dear friend google. Google Trend has generated the biggest wellness trends for 2020 based on the searches. And guess what, we’ll be looking at technology and personal experiences to improve our physical and mental wellbeing next year.

Doesn’t come as much of a surprise as we are always trying to find new ways to unwind, slow down, finding more zen in our hectic lifestyles. It’s time to step up our zen. Luckily for us, the wellness industry is evolving massively, so there’s plenty of ways to sneak in more self-care when we need it most.

Here are the four most searched wellness trends for the next decade. We’re ready, are you? And yeah, we (at Power Living and Yogaholics) quietly kinda have you covered in most of them already. #WINNING

1. Healing vibes of Sound Baths.

Just as meditation and mindfulness have become increasingly popular as individuals attempt to tackle anxiety and take more time for reflection, sound healing – which works similarly – has started to enter the mainstream culture. Sound healing has increased by 285% in searches. WOW.

So what is sound bath healing, you wonder? The practice literally involves ‘bathing’ in sounds that are often produced by crystal bowls or instruments tuned to specific frequencies. These frequencies are said to trigger certain areas in the brain which help you relax and release tension. That’s why you’ll often see sound bath healing combined with meditation and yoga practices. There are even opportunities to experience it during a blow-dry too.

Although it may sound a bit contrary to relax and calm the mind with sound, however, a sound bath ignites the alpha and theta brainwaves. Alpha waves are known to increase creativity and suppress depression, while theta brain waves occur mostly when we are asleep and are the brains doorway to learning and memory.

If you haven’t tried it yet, we think you should give it a go. You will be surprised how calm you will float out of the room. And we have the perfect opportunity coming up at Power Living April 3. Join Matt Omo, a.k.a. The Gong Guru, for a transformational journey using ancient ritual, shamanic breathwork and live sound immersion with didgeridoo, drums, gongs, crystal bowls, channelled vocals and Tibetan bells. How epic is that!

2. Virtual wellness is booming.

Searches for virtual wellness has increased by 242%. There are no more excuses to miss out on self-care these days. Not having enough time to practice yoga, sitting down for that quick meditation, doesn’t work anymore. We all have been there, running late and missing our favourite yoga class. Oh, the frustration because your meeting ran over. Again. Lucky us that today wellness offerings are one click away stored in our pockets, accessible 24/7. You can access your workouts from yoga, barre, cardio, boxing to interactive gratitude and journaling prompts via various apps. You can choose what and when you want it. Easy as that. The toughest decision might be, what will you choose first?

Coming back to missing your favourite yoga class at the studio. Did you know, that Power Living‘s online yoga studio, yogaholics, is also just a mouse click away? No more missing yoga for you. There are loads of guided meditations, yoga flows from beginner to advanced yogis and inspirational talks from all your favourite teachers to be explored. You will even find mini-tutorials of different yoga poses. So, you can practice at home step-by-step. Next time your teacher calls out crow pose in class, you totally got this!

You all need now is roll out your mat and get flowing. We’ll suggest a yoga flow below so you can stick to your goals in the new decade. Give it a try if you haven’t already.

3. The importance of breath.

Have you taken a conscious breath today? Don’t worry, we all usually don’t pay attention to our breath. The search for breathing apps has increased by 219%.  It seems like we are starting to consider our breath properly. It’s about time, we think, as the breath is the most crucial action of the body. We’d die otherwise. However, it is quite often overlooked.

Studies have shown that practicing just 25 minutes of breathing techniques can calm the mind, improve cognitive function and boost energy levels, which is one of the reasons it’s so crucial in activities like yoga. Having access to guided breathing exercises through apps or online platforms, we can achieve this level of commitment more efficiently, as the practice can fit into our daily routine. You can practice your breathing exercise or your meditation on your morning commute or just before you go to bed. Just pop in your headphones whenever you have a few minutes, and you are ready to go. You will feel like a new person after. Trust us.

4. Immerse yourself on retreat.

Holidays are increasingly becoming more about taking time away from your hectic daily routine. We are craving to have a moment for ourselves, which means forgoing alcohol-soaked itineraries and even cultural excursions in favour of mindful retreats. Hence, the search for retreats has increased by 182%. Have you been on retreat yet?

The trend is about more than just relaxing on a sun-drenched lounger though. From yoga and meditation to silent stays and ayurvedic practices, these trips have physical and mental wellbeing at their heart. You are diving deep into your yoga and meditation practice while making friends with like-minded yogis. Can it get any better than that? You will be amazed how a retreat can transform your whole being.

Have you been on a retreat yet? Power Living has amazing retreats coming up this year. You can choose between Bali and even India, later in the year. These are indeed life-changing – what a way to step it up in the new decade!

The new decade seems to be all about us finding our zen. And although most of us are already spending too much time on our phones, we can utilise them for zen support. Lifehack right here. Just keep in mind to schedule in a digital detox once in a while, to entirely zen out and spending time IRL. But in the meantime, test as many wellness apps as you want. Find your favourite one and create your unique self-care routine. You will love it even more, as you can completely personalise it and it’s available at your fingertips whenever you need it. Are you looking forward to stepping it up in the new decade as we are?

And while we have you here, in the new decade zen vibe. Stick to your new wellness goals. Give Shauna’s yoga flow for goals a go. You don’t want to miss out any of your new zen goals, would you? So roll out your mat and get flowing, yogis! And just so you know, you don’t need to practice in your home, take your mat anywhere you fancy. The guided flow will go with you. How good is that!
